I can't believe some of the tracks I'm listening to on NG just lately, there's some out there now which are ridiculously professional sounding. Your pads are so 'airy' and remind me a lot of old chillout dance music I used to listen to when I was younger, it's a sound I've never been able to achieve. It's got a very similar feel to deadmau5's 'brazil' - which is one of my fav tracks by him, so that's a very big plus straight away!
It is a very relaxing melody, even though very similar all the way through, but hey, this is progressive house (to me) so that's the idea of it, it doesn't getting annoyingly repetitive though if that makes sense. And I can't talk much cause I struggle sometimes to change things up throughout my songs :P
I'm really intrigued by what you mean when you say 'high-pitched shake offset just before the kick'. It's not something I've done, so how would I go about doing it if you don't mind me asking?
If this had of been a track made by me, it's something I would be tremendously proud of! So please don't stop making music, and like Apeirophobiac said, keep putting detailed comments on your tracks, it really does help people who are truly interested in making music.
Thanks for the nice track :)

haha, quite amusing lyrics, if that's what it does really mean.
Now to the track... there's so many catchy points throughout it, it never gets boring, or repetitive, your effects on your lead/bass is just incredible, same with the drum samples, they are just crystal clear!
And the way you got them to just float around the vocals so perfectly, it's as if the vocals where written around your music when infact the music was written around the vocals!
Which is another thing, I'm pretty sure even without the vocals the track itself is that good, it would still be awesome on it's own. I'm still amazed at how well it's mixed too, like Gonif said.
I think I'm going to have to try separating each instrument into different groups, I take it when you said for example, hat's don't need low frequencies, you put a high pass filter on them, and then a low pass for the kick/bass? So it frees each instrument up so you only get the necessary frequencies for that track? Is that what you mean by it?
Either way this track is a definite 5, 10 and download, this is something that could come on in a club and no one would hesitate to get on the dance floor.

Yes that's what the lyrics really mean, ha. First, thanks for the lengthy review, now onto your question. What you've already assumed is the big picture, but there are still valuable high frequencies in some drum samples and bass. I wouldn't roll off anything completely unless it was an individual instrument/sample that I wanted a specific sound from (ie: a hat whose low freqs are horrible sounding, yet has nice mid/highs). I generally roll off the lows on my hats, but only down to -6.00 db. But yea, you hit the nail on the head, just don't overdo it!

I'm having the same trouble as you, struggling to stick within the 10-12 second guidelines.
But yours is sounding very good indeed, oh and btw, you missed the 'm' from music in your myspace link :)
(You're getting a star for every 2 seconds ^_^)

...isnt what I normally listen to, I really like Ludacris, Chingy, Lil Jon and artists like that, and most of the hip hop/rap tracks that I have on my computer are the really popular tracks from big films like fast/furious, that sort of thing, mainly cause they're catchy, well produced and don't get annoying, and they sometimes give me a laugh too cause the rhymes are quite comical.
So to say this isn't made my a world famous rapper/producer, I am really, really suprised I liked this track, usually I hear undergrown hip hop work on sites like this, myspace etc and think it's absolutely, shockingly, bad.
But yeah, I really like this, and it's gonna be d/l'ed and added to my playlist of very big hip hop artists, so, to me at least, you've definately got potential to appeal to a very wide audience if I'm liking what I hear already!

"bearing in mind my CPU was getting raped at that point, i decided to call it a day! :)"
You need to upgrade so your pc is capable! :P
Cause hearing this song with a chunkier sounding lead would just take the cake.
Although what is being played isnt exactly complicated, the sound and the quality of each instrument is incredible, I really can't wait for the day I can create and produce tracks with such a professional sound!
Really good work, fav'd and dl'd!

I can't help but whistle along to the lead melody at the start, and when it kicks back in after the 'welcome back commader skymarshall...' it just sounds awesome, really do like this track alot!
Author's Response:
Awesome! Not many people like the mid-section when it stops ... but it is there to make the second half of the song slam in a little harder. But thanks man =)

I've downloaded a lot of songs off NewGrounds (and other sites) by many different artists and I love them all, however this one is very different. This is one of the few tracks that I've downloaded and actually listen to pretty much all the time!
Almost every compilation CD I make it gets put on there, whether it's for my car, to play before I go out clubbing, just to listen to, or to put on a CD to play down at my bar on a Friday or Saturday night and it's played along with a load of famous songs too and I get people asking me who this song is by when yours comes on cause it just stands out and I guess people want it.
It just really is good, it doesn't seem to get boring and I love the whole first/second lesson thing and how the main lead and beat is brought into the song. Top work and can't wait to hear more like it!!

That really was incredible.
It was so filled with emotion and feeling, everything blended together so nicely I had little scenes running in my head of couples meeting and that feeling you get when you meet someone you really like and can't wait to see them again, haha, and how bad you feel when it doesn't go the way you planned.
Really does capture the whole 'love' emotion man! Good stuff, definate 10!

...amazing
at first i wasn't sure where it was going if im honest, then when it started glitchin slightly i thought it was pretty clever, and the way it went from that into thost electronica drums was awesome.
blending it with deck scratches and other sound effects works wonderfully, reminds me of the first time i listened to linkin park's 'session' track, and dont take that the wrong way, thats big compliment in my opinion!
seriously good stuff mate, definately downloading and adding to fav.
will be spending tomorrow night looking through your other uploads too, hopefully its on par with this :)

Thanks for the review JD. Yeah, I'm all about the glitches for sure. This song is actually a little lighter than what i normally do, glitch-wise.
Oh no, i wouldn't take that the wrong way. I used to listen to Linkin Park : P
If i remember they had two tracks like that? Or was it just one? I don't recall. I just remember listening to the session track and wanting to find more music like that. I found Aphex Twin, then it went all out from that and i came into this whole world of gltiched up wonderful-ness : D
Not to force you or anything, but you should check out one of my recent tracks "Godspeed" when your listening to my other stuff. I think you might like that vibe! I hope you like my other tunes when you begin listening! : D
Thanks for the thoughtful review - cheers.
